Yesterday, I went\nswimming. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After 4-5 years,\nmaybe, I swam. Or rather, I tried to. That thing they say, \u201cOnce\nyou learn swimming\/cycling, you have learnt for life. You never\nforget.\u201d All lies. Pure bullcrap, I say. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My head wouldn\u2019t\nregister the rhythm of popping out to breathe. The mind struggling\nbetween, \u201call those breathing exercises in yoga class gone for a\ntoss\u201d and \u201call those breathing exercises is why there isn\u2019t\nwater snorting up my nose.\u201d \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My legs had\nforgotten how to float, they just dragged behind the torso. What\nchoice did they have? The helpless, unwilling children that they\nwere, being dragged to the dentist. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My heart pounded\nhard within the first 20 meters, \u201cYou want cardio? Here, take\ncardio.\u201d \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My eyes refused to\nadjust to the particularly poor visibility in the pool on our\nbuilding premises. Don\u2019t ask. That was supposedly the cleaned-up\nversion of the pool. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not that a clean\npool would help me recall how to move my arms to displace water\nsmoothly and not go splash-splASH-SpLaSh-s p l a s h. What did I tell\nyou? No rhythm. What. So. Ever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not that I care, but\nI would be an amusing sight to onlookers. Not that I care, there were\nnone. It was drizzling. And supposedly, no one likes pools with lots\nof leaves, from the trees above them, merrily floating on the water.\nAnd in the water. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Not that I care, my\nattempt at swimming amused me too. Not that I care, it felt like I\nwasn\u2019t looking either. The very act of not being able to swim was\nsurprisingly meditative. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The gaze was\ninternal. It was critical. But, it was also amused that it was being\ncritical. It was unexpected. But, maybe focussing on the chaos of the\ncrying legs, the stubborn head, the vengeful heart, and the\nfogged-out eyes, the gaze had no choice but to observe the debacle.\nIt was steady. As if telling me\u2014come what may, I am here watching\nyou stay afloat. Watching you entertain me, but watching you, I am. \n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
