Rabad the painter

Posted by navin on September 17, 2008

Rabad loves drawing and coloring. She goes to a drawing class three times a week, where they teach her how to copy drawings made by her teacher and then color them with crayons. Even otherwise, she spends a lot of time drawing or coloring – with crayons, sketch pens, or water colors. She can literally spend hours doing this.

Sometimes she just colors inside an existing picture, like this one of Disney’s little mermaid. This was impressive because the picture is actually huge – maybe 3-1/2 feet by 2-1/2 feet. And she wasn’t satisfied until she had finished coloring the whole thing.

Then there’s this example of a picture that she drew herself and then colored.

But more often these days, she skips the drawing part and simply starts coloring – like the next two pictures.

  1. Super talent!

Till today the only drawing I can make is somewhat similar to “House, Temple and Hills” and her is still better than my best 🙂

The last one is really good… reminds me of Tare Zameen Par! Just wondering Meetu, don’t you feel like picking up the brush sometimes after seeing such work?

🙂 oh yeah, i play around with her crayons every once in a while and she goes, “nice coloring, mama, good job!”

i doubt i have even half the sense of color that this girl has, i love her combinations. and guess what i get when i ask her, “how do you know to use a brown after an orange?” – “my mind tells me” it seems…

i absolutely love the mermaid one rabad has done… she has also given a shading effect… amazing….
I thought she only had a great presence of mind with her clever answers… didnt know till i saw these pics that she is so good at drawing and coloring

The watercolour is really good. She certainly has a feel for balance and colour. The blue and the green balance each other well, without the use of symmetry, concentric circle or any other forced organization.
