A photo of the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneshwar - with scaffolding all around the temple as restoration work is in progress. Lots of temples in Orissa (if not all?) looked like this to us when we were there.

This is a picture of the “Grand Canyon of Hawaii” on the island of Kauai. We had spent a week in Kauai a couple of years back. It was great. Note the tiny helicopter in the middle of the picture.

This picture has been touched up using the “normalize” option of the “convert” command from the ImageMagick toolkit. The same effect can be achieved in Photoshop or Gimp using the “Auto” button in the Levels dialog. Comapre with the original picture:

Moral of the story: get great improvements in your pictures by using this very simple technique to adjust the dynamic range of colors. This is especially useful in the case of pictures taken in low light or in very bright light.

Continuing with photographs in the festive spirit. Sunday night we went for Dandiya and Arsh went to sleep in the middle of all the ruckus. Here you can see him curled up in the corner at the bottom left of the photograph. Meeta is calling me back - “Stop taking photographs and get back to dancing”.

That’s Meeta in the candlelight. We went to “Silk Route” on Saturday. The service was pathetic, but the food was excellent. Arsh and Ruhi both behaved themselves and went to sleep early, so we had a good time. We had only the Thai food, but now we’ll need to go back to try the Indonesian, Korean and Vietnamese food there.
